Avast’s history dates back to the 1980s, when its founders – Pavel Baudiš and Eduard Kučera – began development of the first anti-virus software. Since then, the company has become a player on the global scale and currently offers its services to more than 435 million users and its products are the number-one most used anti-virus programs in the world. This is also due in part to Avast’s takeover of its former competitor AVG Technologies at a cost of USD 1.3 billion. Under the leadership of COO Vince Steckler, Avast was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2018.

Twisto is a payment application that makes paying for purchases on the internet and at brick-and-mortar shops more convenient, faster and more secure. The service is used by more than half a million customers. In the period 2016-2017, Twisto placed in the top fifty of the world’s most promising fintech start-ups in the Financial IT ranking. The company’s most successful year so far was 2018, when it mediated payments totalling CZK 1 billion. Twisto plans to triple this volume in 2019, particularly thanks to the launch of a number of new products and development in Poland.

Liftago is a Czech start-up that has established itself among customers even alongside a billion-dollar foreign competitor. The company currently has more than 1,500 licensed drivers and over 500,000 customers. Although this is a Czech-Slovak business success story, it involves the highest-rated taxi application in the world according to ratings on Google Play and App Store. The application connects licensed taxi drivers with passengers, whom it allows to select from offers of drivers on the basis of their ratings, arrival time, vehicle type and price estimate. The company is newly using its licensed drivers to provide courier and product delivery services and is thus fulfilling its vision of sustainable mobility. The application can now be used by customers in eight Czech cities as well as in the capitals of our eastern neighbours and is continuing to grow. In 2018, Liftago’s turnover increased by more than one-third year on year to CZK 300 million. The company was established in 2012 by Martin Hausenblas, Juraj Atlas and current CEO Ondřej Krátký. Liftago’s objective is to make full use of the vehicles that already exist in cities and thus not unnecessarily overwhelm them with more.

STRV is a leading Czech technology company focusing on design and development of software products. The company was established in 2009 and is focused primarily on two activities. The first is development of custom applications in close cooperation with its clients, which include, for example, the technology giants Microsoft and Itochu, rapidly growing companies such as Tinder, ClassDojo and LegalZoom, and the start-up projects Boosted Boards, Opkix and Pura Scents. The other area of interest is development of the company’s own products using state-of-the-art technologies within STRV Labs. Since its establishment, the company has introduced hundreds of applications and solutions to the market. In 2018, Deloitte and the Financial Times ranked STRV second among the fastest-growing European firms, while its revenues in 2018 reached USD 16.1 million.

Warhorse Studios

Warhorse Studios is a Czech independent development studio focused on creation of computer games. The studio’s founders are Dan Vávra, who gained notoriety with the world-famous Mafia and Mafia 2 games, and Martin Klíma, who found success with his Dračí doupě. In 2018, the studio achieved fame with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a game set in the middle ages, which enjoyed success around the world. More than one million units were sold in a single week and sales figures for 2018 exceeded two million, while the company’s revenues are estimated at CZK 1 billion.

Avocode is a software tool that simplifies the work of designers and developers around the world. Avocode makes it possible to export individual elements from graphics files without the aid of a graphics editor. Stated simply, Avocode translates designs into code for websites and mobile applications. Avocode’s customers include, among others, Intel, Accenture, Salesforce and Panasonic. A major success for Avocode was its acceptance into the 500 Startups accelerator.

Since 2015, the platform has achieved a 95% customer-satisfaction rating on the prestigious TrustRadius website. The company announced the establishment of new sales offices in Argentina and Mexico in 2010. Established by Vít Horký and Damian Brhel in 2011, Brand Embassy is based in Prague and has branches in San Diego, Boston, London and Dubai. Originally a Czech firm, Brand Embassy was acquired by the Israeli company NICE in May 2019.

The Czech company productboard offers a platform of the same that helps product managers direct product development by collecting and consolidating feedback from customers. Based on that feedback, it enables product managers to make better decisions regarding the future form of their products. A total of USD 19.7 million has been invested in productboard by a group of investors led by the venture-capital fund Kleiner Perkins of Silicon Valley. productboard is already being used by more than 2,000 customers including, for example, Avast, Fox News, UiPath and DellEMC. In 2021 productboard announced they have raised USD 72 million in Series C funding led by Tiger Global Management.
