It is a well-known fact that several cities and states have problems with the taxi alternative start-up Uber. We could have witnessed that Uber has been forbit in several countries, most recently in Italy and Denmark.

Legal action against Uber in Brno

One of the most valuable start-ups in the world has opened its branch in Moravian metropole Brno two months ago. The local taxi services were not overly excited about it. Such fact led one of Brno´s companies, Lido Taxi to impose legal action against Uber. Brno´s court has issued an interim measure stating that Uber must stop all its activities in the city until the legal action is settled by the court.

Uber has not met the same faith in Brno yet, as it did in other previously mentioned countries. The overall problem with Uber´s services lies in the fact that legislative framework of many countries is obsolete. Therefore, it does not correspond with the needs of current market which is filled with technological innovations.

It does worth to mention that Uber has successfully settled several disputed already, for example in the Baltic countries. In Estonia, the activities of alternative taxi providers, such as Uber, are defined by the law and they coexist along with classical taxi services.

Problem of innovative companies

It shows us a greater problem. Many start-ups and innovative companies have difficulties to do business within the current legal framework. The effort to innovate clashes with obsolete framework, making business more difficult. States need to find a way to react promptly to the need of current market.

That is why we hope, that the case of Uber in Brno will get enough attention from local politics responsible for the legal framework and eventually, help to speed up the process of ratification of new laws.
